The air around Nouva and it's cities became gloomy, hard to breathe. The plants and foliage began to die and the creatures on it withered to nothing. As their livestock began to die off they were quickly replaced with an overwhelming amount of hostile entities- shadowdroppers, jellyfiends, explosivefiends, spiders and archerfiends began to spawn left and right, quickly taking over the cities that were once protected. In the midst of this all, Vergil Rapier called for a meeting at the City Hall with all those that could make it past the deadly creatures barring their path.
It was at the Nouva City Hall that our heroes first started their long journey. Vergil explained to all those that attended that the Goddess was weak, dieing, and that they were receiving help from an unknown outside-source to try and find a way to save her. With what little energy she had, she gave them a map to a specific location, though where exactly this location was relatively unrecognized. It took a good eye and a brave troll to speak up and point out that it was in a desert. Only two deserts were known at the time: one north of Nouva City and the desert Polaris was built in.
The trolls split into three teams, two that would go exploring, a desert each, and one composed of Vergil Rapier and his moirail to check on the goddess' condition. A communicator was given to the leader of each team for long-distance contact and they promptly set out to accomplish their goals.
Vergil Rapier and Briana Ceresk headed straight for the goddess, Tridivir, atop her shrine. It was a long walk through hostile creatures and quite a dangerous climb to get to her. When they finally arrived, the rainbow drinker took notice that she was even worse than she had been before. Her power was nearly drained after having given him and the others the maps. She could barely speak at all. Even his moirail, Briana, could tell that was something definitely wrong with her.
After a few moments their communicator fizzed and a voice echoed over the rocks as Hassan, the leader of the team north of Nouva City, spoke. They found the location and it was quite a sight. When communication between the two ended, the team in Polaris was contacted and everyone gathered at the shrine to leave, Hassan in the lead once more.
The building in front of them was foreign to their eyes. A crystal structure of many colors, falling apart and corroded via the harsh weather of the desert. The entryway circuitry was broken which made it difficult to enter, and the inside of the building was covered from top to bottom in vines, partially obscuring their vision. Ascending several sets of stairs they found themselves in what looked like an old library. Everyone searched the shelves for something that could help in their endeavor, pulling old dusty books that were falling apart. None held the answers they were looking for.
As they were about to give up on that idea, one of the trolls found an old diary, it's words smeared and fading over time. With what they could read, it spoke of another goddess, of time running out, and of a portal with hidden parts within the temple. Curious as to whether the building they were in was the very temple that the book spoke of, they began to search the building once more. The parts were found and the gateway was created. Vergil, being the mayor of Nouva City and the translator for Tridivir, bravely stepped forward to hop through it, though when he finally got close enough he hesitated. The sea dweller, Attemm, in annoyance with the rainbow drinker's hesitance, tackled him through the portal, both disappearing into the void.
Everyone, concerned for the two and for the goddess, soon followed.
Chapter 2 - The False InterpreterThe travel was short and everyone reappeared in the temple, though in a different location. Something felt off about the whole ordeal and upon inspection of themselves, they found that they were trolls no more. Instead their skin changed to that of a blue color, their hair into pale, thick tendrils. Their clothing changed as well. Before they could discuss this sudden change in appearance, a blue man appeared at the doorway, one that looked similar to them but was draped in blues and silvers. He introduced himself as Centauri Celestialtongue.
With great weariness, our heroes followed him out of the temple- the ruins were whole once more. A gaze turned in the skies direction revealed that they were deep underwater, sheltered by a bubble that covered the small city. Centauri gave them a small tour, introducing them to where they were to stay for the time being and where they could eat. Eventually he parted ways as the heroes settled into the new home. When they were done they headed out for a meal and joined up with Centauri once more.
As they ordered whatever it was they could, and ate with the strange utensils that the blue people used, questions began to spill. With Vergil's advice they kept their true identities secret as they learned of the eau lourde race, of Centauri's significance to his people, and how Cristallum, the eau lourde's world, had it's own goddess. They learned about mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers, pups and families. Confusing for some to take in, but deemed important none the less.
When it was time to get some rest, the trolls were reluctant to use the beds provided for them, for fear of nightmares and many other things that awaited them when their eyes closed. Quadrants, friends, and complete strangers shared rooms, and often even beds, with each other. As sleep overtook them, they easily relaxed - there was nothing to fear in the end.
Day came and so did their energy. They found themselves hungry having digested their dinner overnight while they slept. They gathered at the restaurant they ate at the night before and waited to be served. When no one appeared it rose suspicions but none thought too much of it until a ruckus was heard outside. Confused, starving, and still weary of their new surroundings, they followed the sounds back to the temple where they listened as Centauri conversed with Acionda, their goddess. A sea pancake, manta ray, of epic proportions. As the eau lourde continued to argue with the goddess, the crowd below grew and Vergil, the translator for the troll's goddess, became skeptical.
The conversation ended and Centauri turned to his people, giving them grave news: Any who questioned Acionda's decisions would have to be thrown in prison. The rainbow acted on instinct and interrupted him, pointing out that the goddess did not say that and was instead telling Centauri to step down from his position of interpreter for her. The blue man refused and called it a fallacy. The goddess could only have one interpreter and Centauri was it.
With great encouragement from his peers, the truth came out. Vergil explained where they were from, how they got there, and what their mission was. He told of how he was the translator for his own goddess back on Nouva, the one they were trying to save. The eau lourde, and his followers, were unconvinced. Centauri quickly commanded the arrest of all our heroes and demanded they be thrown into prison. They didn't put up much of a fight as they had no chance- the enforcement were on them in seconds, hightailing them away from the crowd and stuffing them into cold, tiny cells.
The trolls-turned-eau lourde were at a loss. They came to find a way to save Tridivir, to save their planet, but failed. There was sorrow and rage. Blame was tossed around and the trolls quickly fell into despair. Centauri decided to grace the heroes with his presence, however brief. He very much believed what they said and he couldn't let them get in the way of his plans. As to what plans he was speaking of they didn't know nor did they seem to care at the moment. They had every right to worry about themselves for the time being, even as Centauri left them to their own devices.
When all seemed bleak and hopeless, a somewhat familiar voice echoed throughout the supposedly empty cell across from them. They weren't alone.
Chapter 3 - Fall of the GoddessThe owner of the voice was revealed and it took everyone by surprise. As it turned out, Centuari Celestialtongue was not who he was- the real Centauri had been thrown into prison. The real Centauri was in that very cell across from them. The man who claimed to be Centauri, the one who had toss them all into the tiny cells was Centauri's twin brother: Quasar. It was apparent that the brothers had conflict when it came down to ruling subjects, as they had both been princes of the Empire of Olde on their original planet.
The real Centauri, being as kind as he was, understood our heroes position and what they needed to do and offered to help them out. They were brought to the mess hall and were guarded by an officer blocking their exit. The chef who served them turned out to be an ally to their cause, or at least Centauris. She whispered to Centauri of their plans and the inclusion of our heroes. As she left them to prepare for their escape, the true translator turned to the imprisoned heroes and gave them his plan.
It was explained that his goddess, Acionda, made a copy of herself and hid it in the temple. Vergil and the others were to go find that copy and bring it out to the top of the temple while Centauri had to retrieve something from his apartment before meeting them back at the temple when he was done. He didn't give much detail other than that and shortly after a commotion started- the chef noct out the guard and everyone took off.
When they entered the temple they were unaware of where to even start looking for the copy. Before they could even head up the stairs to try and start their search, the chef from the prison came in to give them a clue, something Centauri accidentally left out. "The key is in the well." There was only one well the knew of and it was in the city square. Stumbling upon the well they tried to come up with a plan to receive it. Without hesitance and without much thinking, Briana dove deep into the water to retrieve the key, trapping herself in the water as she couldn't swim worth the life of her. She ran out of air quickly only to discover she could breath underwater, even as Vergil rescued her. The team of trolls-turned-eau lourde promptly returned to the shrine, unlocking a hidden underground chamber concealing an egg.
Sure that this was the copy that Centauri had been talking about, our heroes brought it back to the surface and swam up to the top of the temple, using their new underwater breathing ability and waited for something to happen, standing around to protect it just in case. Centauri reappeared, though Hassan was obviously weary of him for some reason, and expressed his gratitude that they had done what he needed to do. Hassan voiced his issues, having read his aura to be that of the fake Centauri, Quasar, his twin brother. A battle ensued. The eau lourde was tough to take down but Alvyia created a perfect distraction for the prince- a surprise kiss to the lips. While she did that, Adalet and the others prepared to take him down. Vergil received a grave injury from his own moirail, as he had been thrown at her earlier, and was beginning to bleed out due to the water surrounding them. The battle ended when Quasar was able to swim past the heroes and dodge their attacks so that he could shove Arioso into the egg, crushing it and all hope that Cristallum had left of surviving.
Even though they couldn't save Cristallum, they didn't give up. Vergil was helped to dry land where everyone seemed to express concern for him but he wouldn't have none of their attention just yet- they had to catch the fleeing Quasar first. They followed the severely injured eau lourde into the temple and found a hidden lever, revealing a stair case. They quickly descended it in chase. This brought them upon a hidden space ship, which Quasar had come to Cristallum on. Before they could enter it, the doors to the ship closed and Quasar fled where they could not follow.
The heroes, now at a loss at what to do, discussed their next move: How do they escape from this now dying planet and return to their own goddess to save her and Nouva from the same fate? They didn't need to think too hard when there was a loud thumping noise back at the entrance to the temple. As it turned out, Centauri had returned just as he promised them, book in tow, but he had passed away, crumbling into nothing as his age caught up to him. One of the heroes fainted at the sight while another picked up the book to read it. It was there way back home. They simply needed to find the equipment needed to build the same portal that brought them to Cristallum and set it's coordinates and time to Nouva.
When all was said and done, they left through the portal to go back home, Munroe being the last, in hopes of rescuing Nouva. What they learned in Cristallum they held dear, as they knew it was their only hope back home.
Chapter 4 - Last ChanceThey arrived back on Nouva, some of our heroes returned as trolls but others were stuck as eau lourde. They didn't have much time to discuss such a problem as their main concern was saving their planet. A troll, Mayall, visiting the shrine stumbled upon them and offered to help out. Due to Hassan immediately taking defense at the troll's sudden appearance, many of the others were worried. Vergil and Briana, however, thought nothing of it. The more help the better, as they said. And so they split off into two teams once more, to explore the shrine inside and out. Adalet personally checked the water underneath the bridge for any hidden doors to no avail and so they headed outside.
A hidden trap door was finally found upon their return by Cardie, tucked safely out of view in a tiny space behind the shrine. She descended the ladder and checked the area to make sure it was safe. As she was down there, an earthquake erupted and the shrine began to crumble. When Cardie gave the all-clear, everyone headed down to see what she saw. They found Tridivir's copy, like they had hoped. It was on a small platform hovering over a large portal, much like the one in Cristallum. As they gathered around it, Vergil became ill and his injuries took a toll on him. Before anyone could help him, Mayall quickly shoved him down into the portal below where disappeared through it, the portal closing on him, cutting off any who wished to follow.
Mayall was quickly tackled by Vergil's moirail and he was pinned to the ground briefly before Hassan took charge over him. Briana collected the egg and everyone headed to the top of the shrine as they did for Acionda's copy. It wasn't that hard to keep track of Mayall and keep him out of the way as they waited for it to hatch atop the mountain. There was a bright flash of light and a smaller version of the current goddess appeared, squeaking happily at her citizens. Relieved that her planet was finally saved, Tridivir collapsed with a heavy sigh and turned back into stardust, having spent all her remaining power to stay alive long enough for the heroes to save what she created.
After a brief greetings to the new goddess, our heroes dragged Mayall to the penitentiary, having run into another troll on the way- Vergil's ex-matesprit, Dharak. There was no time for questions and answers but the purple blood followed the small crowed and watched them in curiosity. Mayall, having revealed himself as Quasar, was thrown into a cell and questioned. He became snarky and unwilling to answer until threatened. Though he didn't know where Vergil went, he did explain himself. About how he came back to Cristallum after our heroes had left it, following them through the portal and gaining the disguise of a troll, just as they had done as eau lourde. He hated his twin brother- older than him by a few mere minutes. Old enough to be more spoiled by their parents. The empire would have gone to Centauri if he hadn't done something about him. He was the one who poisoned Acionda and he was also the one to poison Tridivir, to get rid of her and her people so that Quasars people would never find out what he had done.
Having all the answers they needed, Briana asked one final question- where he had been staying. When she gained what she needed, she lead everyone to Quasar's hive and began to search it, feeling as if the eau lourde had been hiding the truth about Vergil from them. They searched high and low, Dharak having offered to check the field of crops and shed outside, but it was Hassan who had found the mysterious keys. After finding something interesting on his own, Dharak lead everyone to the small shed where they placed the keys in an odd lock, revealing a hidden trap door that Dharak instantly fell through as he had been standing atop it.
Shortly after expressing their concern for the purple blood, they all descended the long ladder down to the hidden basement below. There was a huge spaceship in the making and a large screen high above the basement. After briefly exploring the space ship, careful not to touch anything, they all checked the console located in front of the screen. Briana ended up going back on her own command, having turned the screen on in curiosity.
The background was bright and decorated with crystals but there was no one to be seen. After a brief shout coming from the screen footsteps could be heard and a beautiful eau lourde appeared, a view of her shoulders and up. When she asked who it was that was contacting her, Briana fiddled around once more to give the woman a visual. A conversation began and the woman introduced herself as Nebula, the Queen of the Empire of Olde. One thing lead to another and the Queen found out what her pups had done, both good and bad, and she grieved for the loss of Centauri. After a while she calmed and requested a visit, to see her remaining pup and to decide what to do with him. After an agreement between her and Briana, the temporary leader of the citizens of Nouva, the screen was shut off.
As they waited for her arrival they decided it was best to start settling in on Nouva once more and to figure out, for those who did not, how to change back into their original troll-selves.
Chapter 5 - The Queen's VisitVergil was lost and so was Tridivir. Though with their new goddess came hope, they still mourned for those who were gone. There was no doubt they wanted to find the mayor and no one more than Briana, wanted the rainbow drinker back. Condolences were expressed by everyone who were there, even by Dharak. Vergil’s disappearance pushed a great change. It was up to his moirail to follow in his footsteps and pick up where he left off. For this they planned on receiving the new goddess’ help in the search for him, dubbing her Aelorais: Goddess of Nouva.
The Queen’s visit wasn’t a brief one, that’s for sure. Upon her arrival just outside Polaris in the sands of the great desert, she was greeted by the trolls who had been waiting for her arrival in great patience. New faces were introduced and they eventually moved into the ship, where they sat down and discussed her pup’s fate. The ship she came in was grand and made of many colored crystals, a beauty to see.
Nebula offered to discuss the fate of her pup within the ship, out of the dry air of the desert they were standing in. Once they were inside they all settled down around a huge table surrounding a throne. After the queen took her place, the talk began. She had thought about Quasar and what his fate would entail on her way to Nouva. In the end, she decided to leave him on the planet, to be taken care of by Briana and the others. To teach him how to be the prince that he needed to be. After some consideration between the trolls there, Briana agreed that it would be the best idea.
After they were finished, Queen Nebula requested to visit her pup, to tell him what they had decided. Honoring her request, Briana and the trolls lead her to the Nouva Penitentiary in which Quasar was waiting in a cold, dark cell. It didn't take much convincing for the prince to accept his fate. In fact, all it took was a promise from the Queen herself that he could come back to his home planet and lead. Quasar was then released.
Seeing it a good idea, Nebula asked Briana if she could see the goddess, Aelorais, that the trolls spoke much of. She expressed the idea that it would be wise to talk to the goddess about keeping Quasar on the planet, as she herself was in charge of the entirety of the Nouva. As the goddess spoke, Briana found herself to be able to understand her. Thusly, she became the translator for the new goddess and explained things to Queen Nebula. Eau Lourde were welcome to come and settle down on the planet of Nouva in the future, whenever they see fit. However grateful the Queen was, she had to return home as her people needed her. She departed from the trolls, giving them a farewell, and returned to her ship.
When the queen left, Aelorais continued to explain to Briana why she had become the new translator. Due to the loss of the original translator, Vergil, Aelorais had been without one. After watching over the trolls, both on Alternia in the different dimensions and on Nouva itself, she decided it would be best to make Briana her new translator. When Briana lost her moirail in an effort to save the planet, she didn't take the time to grieve and instead set forth to ensure the planet was safe and that Quasar was taken care of first and foremost. This is what convinced Aelorais that she would be the best choice. Briana Ceresk, now translator of Aelorais, was more than grateful and proud to have been chosen for such an important responsibility.
The new translator then asked if the goddess could grant them help in an effort to find Vergil, to bring him back. Though Aelorais said she knew how to help, she didn't have the power to. She was still too small and the shrine that had been destroyed lacked the power she needed to do anymore than bring new trolls to the planet and give special, but very brief, powers to them. With that, the trolls believed it would be in everyone's best interests if they built a new shrine, as the old one was also too dangerous for new trolls to venture through.
And so they did. The shrine was built on top of the mountain. The rush of new power from this shrine enveloped Aelorais and she grew bigger, now with the power to help them in their plight.
Special - Aelorais' VisionAll the trolls and eau lourde that could come gathered at the shrine that they helped build several weeks ago. Aelorais expressed her gratitude and offered to share a vision of Tridivir and Vergil's shared pasts.
Upon agreement, the scenery quickly made it's change. Everything became extremely dark and very foggy. The shrine itself disappeared, leaving the cold stone of the mountain beneath everyone's feet. There were no trees, no life. There was nothing but fog far as the eye could see. What wasn't covered in fog revealed a barren wasteland of dirt and rock. The fog itself was of a greenish color, most likely toxic and dangerous to inhale.
When they turned around their city was non-existent but a familiar hive was still there off in the distance.
Those who attended, trolls and eau lourde alike, would find that they could breath fine for some reason, even though it was obvious that the gas shouldn't be inhaled. Upon inspection of themselves, they would find that they are visible, but faded. See-through. As if they might not really be there or may be a ghost themselves.
Then Vergil Rapier appeared, ascended the mountain. His coat was zipped and his hood up, shrouding his face in shadows. Batdaddy lay curled near his neck. The both of them struggled to breathe, coughing as they climbed. The trolls and eau lourde tried to talk to Vergil, to gain his attention, but he never heard nor saw them. They weren't really there.
A flurry of shooting stars had shot past the planet of Nouva. There was a twinkling in the sky, in the distance. One of the shooting stars heralded itself towards Vergil. As if he were crazy, he opened up his arms to try and catch it instead of dodging it. He was confident that he could, as if he knew what was going to happen. As the shooting star continued towards him, it split into two. While half of it landed far in the distance on Nouva, the other half Vergil caught in his arms. As if like magic, the gas around the direct mountain dispersed and small saplings burst from the ground.
It was an egg. Vergil caught a falling egg.
He cradled the egg in his arms, staring in the direction of the 'other half' of the shooting star, wondering what just happened. Eventually he turned to the egg and whispered "It is all right now, you are save." There was a small whisper in return from within the egg, Briana translating it to 'Thank you'.
With a bright glow enveloping the egg and Vergil in light, a giant dirt noodle was revealed, Vergil holding it in his arms. His nose wrinkled in disgust and he dropped it on the ground, resulting in a loud squeak from the dirt noodle and a severe scolding from Batdaddy. The rainbow drinker returned to his hive after expressing his distaste for 'vemales', albeit crushing Briana's own spirit in the process.
The sun and moons passed in several cycles and Vergil returned. He never once spoke to the worm but he sat there, watching as the rest of the gas dispersed over time and flowers and plants began to bloom and grow. The celestial being itself never changed sizes, never grew bigger.
Eventually night fell once more and everyone ended up at the bottom of the mountain, within the shrine that had previously been destroyed when Tridivir passed on. Vergil was building it. The goddess and he spoke back and forth as he worked. Her little squeaks were of excitement, happy that Vergil was finally doing what she brought him there to do. The reply she received was Vergil's expression of boredom and how he didn't want to be alone any longer in return for creating the shrine.
Time passed once more when the shrine was complete.
The trees and flowers were in full bloom, there were clear skies, birds chirping, creatures running around on the ground below. Vergil had what looked like a large map, scrawled open and weighed down with loose stones. He pointed around on it, talking excitedly, a huge smile on his face. He made gestures with his hands as he explained to the goddess, who was now fairly large, much larger than Aelorais currently was, of how he imagined a city. Of what it would look like, where what would be.
Eventually he stood, having rolled up the map and clutching it to himself, still smiling broadly. He then spoke for a final time. "Thank you, Tridivir. I had a rouhv live back on Alternia but perhaps you are right- perhaps I vill have a better live here. Perhaps so vould many others. I vill help you. I vill prepare your vorld vor those who could bring it change. Vor those who are destined to leave Alternia vor a better live that they could make their own."
And with that everything faded.
Vergil, the forest, Tridivir.
Everyone was back at the shrine at the top of the mountain. Aelorais sat there, gazing at them with a blind stare. She explained that she didn't have as much power as she thought and would have held on much longer to the vision, to share more of what they needed to know. She said to give her more time, to let her store more power. She promised to share more of her vision with them when she had the energy. But for now she was sleepy. So very sleepy.
The trolls and eau lourde were left to wonder what the vision she shared could possibly mean, and what the shooting star split in half meant.
